WPCA Challenge #1

Rafting at The Arnold River.

The 2019 WPCA rafting trip was such an adrenaline rush experience, I loved
every minute of it. I was so excited when I got the notice for our first W.P.C.A
challenge I instantly Started packing Because of how excited I was. I woke up and
Instantly got changed and had Weet-Bix for breakfast. We hopped in the car and
drove off to school, my face was almost saw because of how happy I was. I finally
got to school and me and the other year 8’s talked about how awesome it would be.
The rafting instructors came with the van and picked us up so we could go to The
Polytech shed to get our gear and get changed into our Wetsuits.

We drove to the Arnold river and we played a few games such as bump tag, And this
other one where we passed around paddles for concentration. Our rafting guide was
Jasper and he was the one who ran us through the safety instructions and how to use the raft. Finally, Natasha, Sinead Jordie and me (our rafting group) picked up the raft and dragged it towards the river. We all hopped in the raft and then started to paddle the prodigious Arnold river.
The other rafts joined in and started paddling slowly we all knew this wouldn't last for
long. We were right, just around the corner was a whole set of rapids. We soon
stopped for a lunch break I was starving.
I saw Declyn and Sammi jump on to the other boat, two minutes later people were
jumping from boat to boat like frogs on lilypads. Finally, I got enough courage to
jump off the boat, I tucked the paddle under my seat and jumped off the out of the
raft and was soon Swiming in the cold Arnold river, Declan pulled me up onto his
boat then I sat on thair for a bit then jumped off to the other raft that I originally
was on. We were really close to the end of the rafting trip, Just about the end of it,
we saw a dead bloated cow it was disgusting. About 5 minutes later we arrived at
the take out area, we pulled the heavy raft out from the water. We played a short
game while we waited for the vans to come and pick us up. The vans soon arrived
and we then hopped inside and drove off to the polytech.

We jumped out of the van and got changed into our dry clothes and then we were
asked to draw a picture of our favourite moments. After that, we drove back to
Paroa and that was the end of our exquisite 2019 Rafting trip.

  1. Hi there!

My name is Matilda and I am a blog commenter for the Summer Learning Journey this year! I’ve noticed that you haven’t done any of the activities yet. Our finish date is the 24th of January but there is still time to give it a go and start gaining some points!

This rafting day sounds like a lot of fun! Was it hard? I’ve never done rafting through rapids before but I always thought it looked like fun. What was your favourite part?

The Summer Learning Journey has heaps of activities to choose from! Here is the link. Have a look through and find some activities you like the looks of. I’m looking forward to seeing which ones you choose! (There is an activity where you get to talk about being brave. I think that this experience counts as being very brave! Maybe you could give that activity a go!)

Remember if you have any questions all you have to do is ask!

Can’t wait to hear from you!

    Matilda :)
